We are a “heart” conscious family. With a child born with a heart defect, a husband with high blood pressure, and myself with an ever-expanding waistline (which isn’t good for the heart)….we’re conscious! Trying to be “heart healthy” doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice taste at ALL! In fact, it means you get to experiment with vegetables and seasonings that you’ve probably never mixed together before. With the Save Mart 350 Race coming up…I decided to share with you a SUPER AWESOME heart healthy recipe. It only takes a quick trip to Save Mart to grab Fresh Finds to get the ball rolling!
Here’s all you’ll need for the TASTIEST Heart Healthy Burger that will be the ENVY of all tailgaters:
- Turkey meat (yes…Turkey)
- mushrooms (1/2 cup)
- tomatoes (sliced)
- avocados (great heart healthy fats)
- whole wheat buns (you can’t tell the difference)
- bran flakes (about 1/2 cup)
- soy sauce (2 tablespoons)
- baked chips for the side!
In a mixing bowl…time to get your hands dirty! Go ahead and mix in the turkey, bran flakes, mushrooms, and soy sauce. Put your hands in and just squish it all together! (add any extra spices that you have that you like or salt and pepper)
and now….you’re ready to hit the grill.
Make sure you’ve got the coals hot or the gas has been turned on.
AND…Spray it with Pam if you don’t want to scrub forEVER when you’re finished!
While the burgers are cooking…go ahead and cut up the lettuce, tomatoes, and avocados. Pull out the mustard, mayo, and any other condiments your family and friends love.
Does this look like a Heart Healthy Burger?? Oh no it doesn’t!
