Halloween is our teenagers MOST favorite time of the year. The other boys love it, but Chris TOTALLY loves it! We have a tradition every year to decorate the inside and outside of the house and to make SURE that we buy at least ONE new decoration each year to add to our stash. This year was NO different. We’ve recently moved to a new town and we thought that there would be NO better way to meet people than to show them how crazy we really are and CREEP our house out!
After pulling out our boxes from the garage, we assessed what we HAD and made a “mental note” of what we NEEDED or WANTED! Then, off to Kmart we went, in search of the goods!
AFTER that shopping, time to get our decorating on:
I used the Big (and cheaply priced) spider web for my center piece. I already had the two candle holders, but I bought those skulls from Kmart (they’re styrofoam). These skulls were PERFECT. They were cheap (which you know I like), but they were also lightweight and easy to manipulate. We already had the creepy skeleton standing on the hearth. The cauldron was a Kmart find. It’s filled with bags of candy, just ready for greedy little hands! Eli and I made the “spooky” banner and we scattered a few spider rings on the mantle to finish it off.
We found this very cool “skull” table runner that just SCREAMED out to me! The lovely witch was in our stash…and we put out glasses full of a variety of candy corns for little fingers to grab. Above the table, we hung some poor little skeletons (this was Eli’s idea…and loves it). I can just see kids swinging at them before the nights out! Behind the table we have a few windows with NO curtains:( BUT, to SPOOK them up, we hung that furry little spider and put some spider rings throughout the blinds (as if the fur spider had babies). oh…so cute! There is an adjacent wall where we hung a smaller “spider and spider web”.
The Front Door
We decided on the SCARY skeleton in lieu of a wreath. Every time Eli opens the door to take the dog out, he’s scared! (it’s so funny and hasn’t gotten old yet!) We’ll put another cauldron of candy by the front door for Halloween night.
I wish I was a better cook, but dealing with my lack of abilities, we came up with candy….of course! AND…chocolate covered apples (trying to be a little healthy here) and Eli wanted to make a cake (ok, we WANTED to make cake pops, but Eli wanted to make a regular cake and decorate it)….and we did. (and it was eaten, even though it lacked a bit in the looks department.
Yes…I am a good mom, and I let Eli pick out his own costume. He’s such a good kid, but you’d never guess that from his choice of costumes each year! A doctor zombie…who thinks of that??
