Homemade Cleaners: Kitchen Surface Disinfectant

Still trying to SAVE a little money AND maybe save the Earth (what any superHERO mom would be doing…right?) ….let’s talk about your kitchen cleaners?  What do you use?  I have a few favorites, and over the years I have gravitated to ones that are more “green” than the ones that I use to use.

Well, what if I told you that YOU could make a Kitchen Surface Cleaner that will KILl the germs in the kitchen, smell good, cost LESS than cleaners in store.   Are you a believer yet?

This is all you need…

  • An Empty Spray bottle
  • Tea Tree Oil
  • Castile Soap
That’s it!  Crazy simple.
.
Let me tell you a little about these products.  Tea Tree oil has SO many uses.  It’s a natural antiviral, antibacterial, antifungal, disinfectant and other medicinal purposes.  Castile Soap is made from pure oils.  It an be used for SO many things, baby wipes, hand soap, body wash, and cleaning solutions. (and they come in many different scents). I bought both of these at Whole Foods (but, check your local stores and online to get the best deal possible)  These products aren’t cheap, but you’re only using a little, and we’ll discuss how to use these products in other ways also.  (don’t worry….you’ll get your money back and so much more!)
.
Ahhhh….onto the recipe for Kitchen disinfectant:
.
  • Add 3 Tbs Castile Soap (mine was Citrus scent)
  • Add 20-30 drops of Tea Tree Oil
.
(NOW….these numbers are for a 16 oz. squirt bottle.  The bottle I reused was 32 oz, SO just DOUBLE it)
Once you have those two items in the bottle, add water (distilled or purified works better).  and just SHAKE it up…and SHAKE a little more.
.
.
Let me know what you think.  I cleaned with it last night and just loved the smell.   AND…it’s kind of nice knowing that I’m doing the SuperHero Mom thing…saving my kids from germs and the planet…all at the same time. (maybe I”ll go and make my cape now!)

Im all about cleaning with clean products, especially making your own. Now my question would be can any other oil be used besides tea tree oil? I know tea tree oil is great for many uses but i don’t quite like the strong smell of it to use for cleaning.
