Sharing how we’re loving life and living it to the fullest!
Three boys, one dog, one chinchilla…Sometimes, you just have to STOP…and Count To Ten.
We have less than ONE week until Christmas!!! Is all your shopping done, did you mail out your Christmas cards, have you made cookies yet to deliver to your neighbors?? With EVERYTHING that we do during the holidays…it’s sometimes hard to think about giving back. (and…I’m not just talking about dropping a $1.00 in the red bucket outside the shopping center).
I can tell you that five years ago, I was a TOTALLY different person. Actually, everyone in my family was. Until, March 28, 2007…when we had our SUPER special needs son. After a year in and out of the hospital in another state, multiple heart surgeries, stomach surgery, mouth surgery…we had to humble ourselves and accept the generosity of friends, family, and church members who offered their help. Without the service of others, I just don’t know how we could have gotten through the first two years with Isaac. From the ladies that made caps for the babies in the hospital, the ladies that made prayer shawls, blankets, who helped clean our house, who brought us dinner…we had never felt a true love like that.
Today, over four years later, our Isaac is thriving (still special)…and our entire family is more aware now of the blessing it is to receive service…but, what an overwhelming feeling you get from giving service. During the holidays, we choose a family to “secret santa” the Twelve Days of Christmas, we donate to the hospital and RMH that Isaac has his heart surgeries at, and we some years we donate “families” from our church to buy presents for.
I am SO extremely fortunate to have the opportunity to tell you about a program call ChampionsForKids. Their mission is to improve the lives of children. So many kids just need basic necessities this time of year…
One of the simple SERVICE projects that ChampionsForKids suggests is to Inspire Their Dreams–A Disney Stocking Stuffer Celebration. Our family will take a shopping trip to Walmart and fill a stocking full of Disney goodies that will just bring the biggest smile to any kiddo’s face!
We’ve decided to choose a “heart” friend. Many of these kiddos have had multiple surgeries, and spend far too many days in the hospital. As if that wasn’t enough, these special kids take a toll on your pocket-book, and many families of special needs kiddos find more medical bills than they’d like under the tree. If I can brighten one of these children’s face with a Disney stocking, it will just fill my heart with so much love.
